Ramadan is one of the most important months in Islam. It is the time for fasting, prayer, and spiritual reflection. Both the Quran and Hadith, which are the primary sources of Islamic teachings, contain numerous references to the significance and virtues of Ramadan.
In this article, we will explore Hadiths and Quran verses about Ramadan in Arabic and English:
Quran Verses About Ramadan In Arabic
1. Ramadan is the month of Fasting
Allah (SWT) Says in the Quran about Ramadan:
O believers! Fasting is prescribed for you—as it was for those before you1—so perhaps you will become mindful ˹of Allah˺.
(Surah al-Baqarah 183)
2. Ramadan in the Month of Quran Revelation:
Allah says in the Quran about the revelation of the Quran in Ramadan:
Ramadan is the month in which the Quran was revealed as a guide for humanity with clear proofs of guidance and the standard ˹to distinguish between right and wrong˺. So, whoever is present this month, let them fast. But whoever is ill or on a journey, then ˹let them fast˺ an equal number of days ˹after Ramaḍân˺.
(Surah al-Baqarah 185)
3. Laylat Al-Qadr:
Allah says in the Quran about the Laylat al-Qadr that occurs in the month of Ramadan:
Indeed, ˹it is˺ We ˹Who˺ sent this ˹Quran˺ down on the Night of Glory.
(Surah al-Qadr)
And what will make you realize what the Night of Glory is?
The Night of Glory is better than a thousand months.
That night the angels and the ˹holy˺ spirit1 descend, by the permission of their Lord, for every ˹decreed˺ matter.
It is all peace until the break of dawn.
Hadith About Ramadan In Arabic
1. Ramadan opens the Doors of Jannah:
The Prophet (saw) said in a Hadith about Ramadan:
(Al-Bukhari and Muslim)
When Ramadan begins, the gates of Jannah are opened, the gates of Hell are closed, and the devils are chained.
2. Worship In Ramadan Forgives Sins:
The Prophet (saw) said in a Hadith about Ramadan:
The five daily (prescribed) Salat, and Friday (prayer) to the next Friday (prayer), and the fasting of Ramadan to the next Ramadan, is expiation of the sins committed in between them, so long as major sins are avoided.
(Muslim)
3. Ramadan Is A Big Win:
The Prophet (saw) said in a Hadith about Ramadan:
(Tirmidhi)
May he be abased who passes through the whole of Ramadan before his sins are forgiven him.
4. A Protection from Hell Fire:
The Prophet (saw) said in a Hadith about Ramadan:
(Mishkat al-Masabih 2053)
If anyone fasts for a day while engaged in jihad, God will remove him* seventy years’ distance from hell.
5. Allah Cares About The Fasting People:
The Prophet (saw) said in a Hadith about Ramadan:
(Bukhari and Muslim)
Whoever forgets that he is fasting, and eats or drinks is to complete his fast, as it was Allah who fed him and gave him something to drink.
6. Fasting In Ramadan in an intercession For You:
The Prophet (saw) said in a Hadith about Ramadan:
Fasting and the Qur’an intercede for a man. Fasting says, ‘O my Lord, I have kept him away from his food and his passions by day, so accept my intercession for him.’ The Qur’an says, ‘I have kept him away from sleep by night, so accept my intercession for him.’ Then their intercession is accepted.
